Pelle Clement has left Sparta Rotterdam for FC Groningen. The 30-year-old midfielder was available on a free transfer after leaving Sparta Rotterdam. Clement played 28 games for Sparta last season, 20 of which were as a starter. He scored two goals and provided three assists. Clement has played 271 games in the Dutch top flight for Ajax, PEC Zwolle, RKC Waalwijk and Sparta. He made a brief stint at Reading in 2017 and 2019, but failed to succeed in the Championship's physicality. Clement is a significant signing for FC Groningen, who have already signed Travis Hernes permanently from Newcastle United this transfer window. Technical director Mo Allach still needs to find replacements for Dies Janse, Tygo Land and Younes Taha, who have returned to their parent clubs after being loaned out.
